Mentorship
What’s the role?

The Women in PR mentoring programme exists to support women to progress in their PR and Communications careers. Now in its 12th year, we have paired over 200 women with senior leaders, and our alumni now hold leadership roles at some of the biggest brands and agencies across the industry. 

As the shadow board member, you will support the Mentoring Leads to ensure the smooth running and continued success of the mentoring programme.

What will I be doing? 

You will assist in the: 

  • Delivery of our flagship event in September, which celebrates the 25/26 mentors and mentees, and bids farewell to the departing cohort
  • Delivery of the mid-year check-in survey and associated action plan to ensure all participants are having the best possible experience 
  • Communications with mentees to foster an engaged community 
  • Facilitating media and LinkedIn opportunities that feature our mentors and mentees and supporting on asset creation for our social content promoting the mentorship scheme
  • Identifying and executing opportunities to enhance the programme, ensuring we’re raising the bar each year
  • Delivery of 2-4 in-person and/or virtual events that facilitate mentee and mentor engagement and development
  • Drafting the WIPR monthly newsletter which will be rotated amongst the Shadow Board, with the support of the WIPR Committee

How much time should I set aside?

The time commitment fluctuates throughout the year. During peak periods, such as in the lead-up to the flagship event, it may require up to 2-3 hours per week. However, other periods may be quieter. Some events are in-person and take place in the evening.

Social Media
What’s the role?

As a Social Media Shadow Board member, you will work alongside our Social Committee Leads, contributing fresh ideas and energy to our LinkedIn presence. This role offers the chance to develop your skills, expand your network, and make a tangible impact on a leading industry organisation and an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in social media management, contribute to a vibrant community, and directly support our mission of increasing the number and diversity of women in leadership roles within the PR and communications industry.

What will I be doing? 
  • Crafting and publishing tailored, engaging LinkedIn posts (including editing or writing opinion pieces in our tone of voice) to enhance engagement and grow our follower base.
  • Comfortably engaging with our community by drafting responses to the inbox, comments, tags, and posts that mention WiPR, as well as contributing thoughtful comments to relevant external articles.
  • Designing appealing visual assets on Canva, including graphics for carousels, standalone posts, and digital event flyers.
  • Proactively contributing innovative ideas and suggestions to our social media content calendar.
  • Demonstrating the ability to think and work independently, with ongoing support and guidance from the Socials Committee Leads.
  • Confidently monitoring and analysing LinkedIn engagement metrics to help refine our content strategies and contribute to performance reports.
  • Keeping abreast of the latest LinkedIn trends and best practices to ensure our content remains relevant and effective for the WiPR audience
  • Drafting the WIPR monthly newsletter which will be rotated amongst the Shadow Board, with the support of the WIPR Committee
What skills are you looking for? 
  • Experience in crafting engaging content for LinkedIn or other social media platforms.
  • Comfort and confidence in online communication and community engagement.
  • Familiarity with visual design principles and experience with Canva.
  • A proactive and creative approach to generating new ideas.
  • The ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively.
  • An interest in understanding and utilising social media analytics.
  • A desire to stay informed about social media trends and best practices.

How much time shall I set aside?

It is recommended to set aside 1-3 hours per week for this role. This will vary depending on the tasks being undertaken and ongoing campaigns and requests for postings.

Events
What’s the role?

As an Events Shadow Board member, you’ll work alongside the Events Committee to support the delivery of an annual calendar of in-person and digital events that support the Women in PR community. From concept ideation to project management and in-person event support, this role offers the chance to develop your skills with valuable hands-on experience and expand your network with leaders from across the industry. 

What will I be doing? 
  • Managing an engaging calendar of in-person and digital events (10-12 in total roughly) enhancing WIPRs reputation, attracting new members, and adding maximum value to existing ones. Events include the Summer party, Christmas party, How I digital events, breakfast roundtables, and regular mixer events. (Mainly London, with 1/2 events to be hosted in key cities e.g Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow)
  • Supporting the event committee with event logistics including but not limited to uploading and sharing event info to Evenbrite, guest list management, helping with venue /catering sourcing and other third parties (e.g. photographers/speakers) 
  • Attendance and event management at key in-person events as representatives from WIPR, supporting with the coordination and running of the events including set-up, guest list management, speaker briefings, activity coordination etc. 
  • Copy, content, and asset creation for events invites including lock-ups, digital assets and event collateral via Canva
  • Collaborating and sharing details of the events programme with the the wider WiPR committee through regular WIP updates to mentoring, campaigns, and sponsorship teams to maximise the success/attendance of the events with amplification across comms channels
  • Proactively contributing innovative ideas to the events programme
  • Ability to think and act independently from events leads, but maintaining a strong level of communication at all times. 
  • Share feedback / and best practice learnings from events/attendees to help refine the schedule 
  • Drafting the WIPR monthly newsletter which will be rotated amongst the Shadow Board, with the support of the WIPR Committee
What skills are you looking for? 
  • Experience in events/project management
  • Creativity and productivity:  individuals that can support and feed into an inclusive events plan

It is recommended to set aside 2-3 hours per week for this role with additional time for in-person events. This will vary depending on the volume of events each month.

Campaigns
What is the role?

As a member of the Campaigns Shadow Board, you will support our Campaign Leads in delivering WiPR’s flagship initiatives—most notably, the 40 Over 40 Power List—while helping to shape the issues and narratives we want WiPR to champion across media and social platforms.

This role is ideal for someone who brings strong core media relations skills, including proactive idea development and confident pitching to press. We’re looking for someone who can spot timely angles, generate compelling campaign ideas and help position WiPR as a leading voice on key industry issues.

You’ll gain hands-on experience in campaign strategy, media outreach, and content development while expanding your network and contributing meaningfully to our mission of increasing the number and diversity of women in leadership across PR and communications.

What will I be doing?
  • Maintaining a press list of relevant contacts 
  • Helping prepare the 40 over 40 Power List media assets including the list itself, press release, and key message creation 
  • Attending and supporting the 40 over 40 launch event itself in June 2025
  • Crafting and publishing quotes in response and to proactive raise awareness for key issues and topics that affect our members
  • Writing opinion pieces in our tone of voice and short social posts
  • Contributing ideas and suggestions for campaigns and commentary
  • Demonstrating the ability to think and work independently, with ongoing support and guidance from the Campaign Committee Leads.
  • Confidently monitoring and analysing target media commentary to help refine our messaging 
  • Drafting the WIPR monthly newsletter which will be rotated amongst the Shadow Board, with the support of the WIPR Committee
What skills are you looking for?
  • Experience in a media relations or campaigns-focused role
  • Confident communicator with experience engaging media and stakeholders
  • Familiarity with media outlets and platforms relevant to WiPR’s audience
  • Proactive and creative in developing ideas and spotting media opportunities
  • Able to work independently, manage priorities, and meet deadlines
  • We recommend 4-5 total years of experience for this role
How much time shall I set aside?

It is recommended to set aside 2-3 hours per week for this role. This will vary depending on the tasks being undertaken and ongoing campaigns. We expect the role to be more time-intensive during campaigns.

Membership
What is the role?

Women in PR exists to advocate for greater diversity and numbers of women in leadership roles in our industry.

All of our committee dedicate their time free of charge and as a not-for-profit organisation, we rely on membership fees to be able to create engaging events for our community, to grow and enhance our impact and to run various successful schemes and campaigns such as our Mentoring Scheme and Ageism report.

As a Shadow Board Member you will support the Membership team in promoting our offer and the benefits of membership, actively recruiting, onboarding and growing our community and creating content that helps drive membership.

What will I be doing?

Key responsibilities include supporting WiPR to achieve its goals by:

  • Monitoring membership numbers and sharing insights on joiners, leavers and renewals
  • Creating content for social media, events and media that helps showcase the benefits of our membership proposition
  • Supporting membership team to set measurable objectives for membership growth
  • Supporting the membership team in liaising with members to gather intelligence that informs our approach to recruitment
  • Working with the membership campaign to create a long-term strategy and campaign for promoting membership
  • Drafting the WIPR monthly newsletter which will be rotated amongst the Shadow Board, with the support of the WIPR Committee

Insights & Events Job Share
What is the role?

Women in PR is a passionate advocate for securing greater diversity and numbers of women in leadership roles within our industry. 

Our programmes, events and campaigns are designed to support women by building allyship and dismantling barriers. 

For the first time this year we’ve created a dedicated data and insights role on our committee to help us better measure our impact and ensure our work champions the issues that matter most to our members.

As the Shadow Board member, you will support the Data and Insight Lead to shape this new workstream with a particular focus on supporting measurement of our active events programme.

What will I be doing?

Key responsibilities include supporting WiPR to achieve its goals by:

  • Maintaining a KPI log for events, tracking attendance, feedback and engagement
  • Providing insight to the events team on KPI performance and learnings to inform the future events programme
  • Supporting events team to set measurable objectives and ensure that everything is in place to track performance ahead of each event
  • Supporting the events committee as needed with logistics and delivery of an engaging programme of in-person and digital events (approx. 10-12 throughout the year)
  • Supporting the Insights committee with delivery and analysis of the annual member census and regular reporting of performance against KPI
  • Drafting the WIPR monthly newsletter which will be rotated amongst the Shadow Board, with the support of the WIPR Committee
How much time shall I set aside?

It is recommended to set aside 1-3 hours per week for this role. 

What skills will you be looking for?
