Please join us for our inaugural media lunch – a chance to network with fellow Women in PR Cymru members in a more relaxed and intimate setting and to hear inspiring personal stories from key members of the media.
For our first event from our 2020 programme, we will be joined by broadcaster Andrea Byrne, who has been anchoring the news for ITV Cymru Wales for more than a decade. Andrea also reads the ITV network news, including guest presenting on the Evening News and News at Ten.
She started her journalism career as a radio reporter for Guildford-based County Sound radio, before joining a local television network as its news editor. Next, she began producing, reporting and presenting for ITV Meridian covering the south of a England, where her feature series following Chinook helicopter pilots leaving for Afghanistan was nominated for an RTS award.
After moving to ITV Wales, Andrea married the former Wales international and British Lion, Lee Byrne, and shorty afterwards took a year-long sabbatical to join him where he was playing in France.
Since presenting in Wales, her career highlights include interviewing Prince Harry and live rolling coverage of Prince William’s wedding. She has also become known for her documentary work on social issues like homelessness, poverty and mental health.
She is currently on maternity leave after having her first child, Jemima, last February.
Andrea will talk to us about her career progression, the changing nature of the media, and how PR and journalists can forge effective links. She’ll also talk candidly about her experiences on career break, maternity leave, and how she feels about returning to work and managing the juggle.
Lunch includes a starter and a main course, half a bottle of wine, followed by coffee/tea and petit four. Full details of the menu, including any dietary requirements will be communicated prior to the event.

Dechreuodd ei gyrfa newyddiadurol fel gohebydd radio i orsaf County Sound yn Guildford, cyn ymuno â rhwydwaith teledu lleol fel golygydd newyddion. Yna, dechreuodd gynhyrchu, adrodd a chyflwyno ar gyfer ITV Meridian sy’n gwasanaethu de Lloegr. Yn ystod ei hamser yno, enwebwyd ei chyfres nodwedd yn dilyn peilotiaid hofrenyddion Chinook oedd yn gadael am Affganistan ei henwebu ar gyfer gwobr RTS.
Ar ôl symud i ITV Cymru, priododd Andrea y chwaraewr rygbi rhyngwladol Lee Byrne, ac yn fuan wedyn cymerodd gyfnod sabothol i ymuno ag ef yn Ffrainc lle roedd yn chwarae rygbi.
Mae ei huchafbwyntiau cyflwyno yn cynnwys cyfweld y Tywysog Harry a darllediad byw o briodas y Tywysog William. Mae hefyd yn adnabyddus am ei gwaith dogfennol ar faterion cymdeithasol fel digartrefedd, tlodi ac iechyd meddwl.
Ar hyn o bryd mae hi ar gyfnod mamolaeth gyda’i phlentyn cyntaf, Jemima, a anwyd fis Chwefror diwethaf.
Bydd Andrea yn siarad â ni am ei gyrfa, newidiadau ym myd y cyfryngau, a sut y gall cysylltiadau cyhoeddus a newyddiadurwyr greu cysylltiadau effeithiol gyda’u gilydd. Bydd hefyd yn siarad yn agored am ei phrofiadau o fod ar seibiant gyrfa, mamolaeth a sut mae’n teimlo am ddychwelyd i’r gwaith a rheoli’r balans rhwng gwaith a gyrfa.
