In 2016, a group of women working in Cardiff got together to address the fact that there wasn’t a single statue in the whole of Wales of a ‘real’ Welsh woman.

Fast forward five years and these women have created a movement.

Last year, they unveiled the first of five statues to a global audience, and changed the landscape of Wales forever.

A monument to Betty Campbell, Wales’ first black head teacher and black history campaigner, now stands pride of place in the centre of Cardiff.

On 18 March, the team unveiled their second statue – this time of leading writer and feminist Elaine Morgan – in Mountain Ash.

We’re delighted to announce that two inspirational members of the Monumental Welsh Women team will share their story with our members.

Helen Molyneux and Cerith Matthias will talk to us about how they set about turning their idea into reality.

We’ll hear what brought the women together, how they gathered support, mobilised resources, and built momentum. We’ll find out where they drew strength from, the highs and lows. And they’ll share a bit about their own career journeys and their hopes for the future.

We’ll leave plenty of time for you to ask your own questions.
